Chart Sorting in Dashboard

To make your data analysis faster and more intuitive, we’ve introduced Chart Sorting. This feature automatically organizes your chart data to highlight the most frequent responses, saving you the manual effort of hunting for the "top" performers in your dashboards and segmentation views.

How Default Sorting Works

By default, charts are now sorted in decreasing order (from highest value to lowest value). This applies across both the Insights Dashboard and the Segmentation Analysis view.

Applicable Question Types

Sorting is automatically applied to the following question types:

  • Screener questions

  • Dropdown menus

  • Single Answer (SA) questions

  • Multiple Answer (MA) questions

The "Randomization" Rule

To ensure we don't break the logic of your data, sorting only triggers if Randomization was turned on for that specific question.

  • Why? If randomization is on, we assume the order of options doesn't carry specific meaning (e.g., "Favorite Color").

  • Note: If randomization is off, we preserve your original order. This protects sequential data that must stay in order, such as Likert scales (Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree) or numerical ranges (18-24, 25-34).

Sorting Logic for Grid Questions

Grid questions have unique data structures, so they follow a specific two-part sorting logic:

1. Default Sorting (The Row/Column Logic)

  • Statements (Rows): These are sorted by sample size (High to Low). This is particularly useful for "Carried Forward" statements where sample sizes may vary.

  • Answer Options (Columns): These are automatically sorted from High to Low based on the results of the first row statement.

2. Manual Column Sorting

You can override the default sort to focus on specific sentiment or answer categories by clicking the Sort Icon in the column header.

Action Result
Click Once Sorts all statements (rows) based on that specific column’s % and count (Highest to Lowest).
Click Again (Same Column) Resets the grid to the Default Sort (Sample size/First row logic).
Click Different Column If you are sorted by Column A and click Column B, the grid will immediately re-sort all statements based on Column B values.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn't my "Strongly Agree" chart sorting from high to low?

A: Check your question settings. If randomization is turned off, the system respects the manual order you set to ensure the scale remains logical for the reader.

Q: Can I sort by the lowest value first?

A: Currently, the toggle functions as [Default Descending] ---> [Original Order]. We are looking into ascending sort options for future updates!
